Barcelona confirm Lewandowski injury for Champions League with Inter | OneFootball

Barcelona have confirmed that Robert Lewandowski sustained a left thigh injury, so he could well miss both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Inter.

The striker limped off clutching the back of his leg during last night’s 4-3 comeback victory over Celta Vigo.

It immediately seemed to be quite serious and today the Blaugrana released a formal statement confirming the diagnosis.

The tests showed an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh, so this is effectively a hamstring strain.

The statement errs on the side of caution, noting that his return to training will depend on how the injury progresses.

However, the Spanish media are confident this type of setback requires at least three weeks on the sidelines.

Specifically, the Spanish-language version of the statement calls this a ‘lesion’ to the muscle, which would be more serious than a mere strain.

Lewandowski is their top scorer with 40 goals in 48 competitive appearances this season, including 11 in the Champions League.

The first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter is in Catalunya on Wednesday April 30, while the return at San Siro is on Tuesday May 6.

Barcelona are already expected to be without Alejandro Balde, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó.
