Barcelona continue to suffer from the Alexander Sorloth curse – Report

FC Barcelona would love nothing more than to go through a game of football against Alexander Sorloth and not see the Norwegian score a goal in that game. He has been such a thorn in the flesh of the Catalan side in recent times.

Last night, against Atletico Madrid, Barcelona threw away a 4-2 lead in the last 10 minutes of the game with Sorloth netting an injury-time goal to stab a dagger into the hearts of Barcelona fans. Sadly, this isn’t even the first time he is doing this, this season.

Earlier, at the end of December, Sorloth ensured Atletico Madrid walked away with three points against Barcelona on the night, beating the Catalan club in their own backyard. It was a result that took them to the top of the La Liga table.

Now, as Mundo Deportivo outlines, Barcelona continue to suffer from the Alexander Sorloth curse. The Norwegian striker scored five goals in his last five appearances against Barcelona and interestingly, it has come with three different teams.

Sorloth first played for Real Sociedad and scored against Barcelona before repeating the feat with Villarreal and now Atletico Madrid. It felt like a moment of Deja-vu when he made the back of the net bulge last night.

At this point, it is safe to say that Alexander Sorloth is the new Iago Aspas for Barcelona. The Spaniard has tormented the club in a similar manner a number of times while playing for Celta Vigo and it looks like the Atletico Madrid forward has taken on the mantle.

If there is one silver lining that Barcelona can take from this Sorloth curse, it is that he doesn’t seem to have much affection towards Real Madrid either, scoring four goals against them in one game with Villarreal last season.

Barcelona will hope that they can break the Sorloth curse during their trip to the Metropolitano in March. The club face Atletico Madrid twice within a month and they will be hoping to keep the Norwegian quiet. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
