As Barcelona kicked off their final preparations today for their upcoming La Liga clash against Girona, they were greeted with some good news in training.

Andreas Christensen, who has been out injured for a few weeks, has rejoined group training heading into tomorrow’s La Liga game, reports SPORT.

Light at the end of the tunnel for Christensen

It has been a frustrating season for Christensen, who has played just 27 minutes all campaign, which came in the opening game vs. Valencia.

The 28-year-old ace missed the first half of the season due to an Achilles tendon issue that required surgery.

Following that, he suffered a calf injury in late January and just when he was set to return, a relapse put him out of action again.

Christensen has been working hard on his recovery but Barça have been patient and cautious with him given his problems this season.

The versatile defender, though, is back in training today, although it is unclear whether he will be in the squad for the Girona encounter.

A timely boost

Christensen’s return comes as a timely boost for Barcelona, who have lost Marc Casado to a potentially season-ending injury, leaving Frenkie de Jong as the only natural option for the holding midfield role.

The Dutchman himself is dealing with some discomfort which could see him be rested in the derby tomorrow.

Christensen’s comeback will provide manager Hansi Flick an additional option to rotate in the defensive midfield position, although, for now, it is not certain that he will be ready for tomorrow.
