The football world has come together in mourning following the tragic passing of FC Barcelona’s first-team doctor, Dr Carles Minarro Garcia.
The Barcelona medical staff member passed away on Saturday evening, leading to the Blaugrana’s La Liga game against Osasuna being called off just before kickoff.
The sudden death of Dr Carles Minarro has come as a huge shock, and according to SPORT, the loss has been particularly devastating for the Barcelona squad.
Indeed, the Barça dressing room was deeply affected upon learning that their team doctor had passed away just hours before their match against Osasuna.
The news came as a complete shock to the players, who were unaware of the tragedy until they arrived at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys for the game.
Dr Minarro had passed away in his hotel room at the team’s base, the Melina Gran Meliá, earlier in the afternoon.
As the squad boarded the team bus to head to the stadium, some players noticed the absence of Dr Minarro. Concerned, a member of the staff went to check on him in his room.
According to sources, it was at this moment that he was found unresponsive. The decision was then made for the team to continue to the stadium without informing them of what had happened.
The Barcelona squad arrived at the stadium as usual, unaware of the tragedy. It was only once they were in the dressing room at Montjuïc that club president Joan Laporta came down to deliver the devastating news.
Both the staff and players were left in complete shock by the unexpected loss.
Following the suspension of the match, several Barcelona players took to social media to express their sorrow and pay tribute to Dr Minarro.
Their messages reflected the deep respect and affection they had for him, highlighting the close bond he shared with the squad.
