Barcelona look set to loan out Vitor Roque and wave goodbye to Ilkay Gundogan for free this week in order to clear space in their salary limit. It will not be enough to register star signing Dani Olmo ahead of their clash with Athletic Club on Saturday night though.
The Blaugrana are desperate to have Olmo available for their home debut. Relevo report that the exits of Gundogan to Manchester City and Roque to Real Betis will only free up around €13m in their salary limit though, while they require about €20m to register Olmo.
They do say the exit of Mikayil Faye could help, and he is set to leave for Rennes in Ligue 1, but it will not be sufficient. Deals for Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen or Clement Lenglet on the other hand would likely tip the balance. If Barcelona cannot find sufficient income then they will consider paying a bank guarantee, which allows the board of directors to increase their budget temporarily, provided it is paid back during the course of the season. This can only be used once in a season, and the directors themselves are personally liable if it is not paid.
Once again it is a far from ideal situation coming into the close of the transfer market for Barcelona. President Joan Laporta had promised that the Blaugrana would be operating within their salary limit this summer, but that appears to remain a distant prospect.
