With the start of 2025, there are several operations that FC Barcelona will be looking forward to taking care of this year. While there are not many changes expected in the squad in January, the Blaugranes would still be looking to add new players in the summer.
But in the meantime, they will also have to address the contracts of several of their players that are expiring this or the next year. Fortunately, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Catalans will not have a lot of work to do regarding the contracts of the players that end this summer.
The four players whose contracts end in 2025 are Inigo Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Gerard Martin, and Wojciech Szczesny.
Martinez and Lewandowski already have automatic extension clauses in their contract, which will be activated if they play a certain number of games this season.
The Spanish defender will have to play 60% of the games for at least 45 minutes to get an optional one-year extension, and up to now, he has played 24 of the 25 games played.
Similarly, Lewandowski’s one-year extension will be activated if he plays 55% of the games for at least 45 minutes, and like Martinez, he has also played 24 out of 25 games this season. With the form that these two players are showing, it will not be difficult for them to reach the required numbers in the coming months.
Another defender, Gerard Martin, has already reached an agreement with Barcelona for a contract renewal, although this has not yet officially been announced by the Blaugrana club. With this new contract, he will remain at Barcelona till 2028 and will have a release clause of €100 million.
The last Blaugrana player whose contract is ending this year is Wojciech Szczesny, and Barcelona will make a decision about his renewal keeping in view Ter Stegen’s recovery from injury.
If the German goalie is not ready to start the next season, the Catalans might extend Szczesny’s contract for a few more months, even though he is yet to make his debut.
