Barcelona move for Marcus Rashford under threat from various angles

Barcelona have decided that if they are to strengthen, then the area they would like to target is their forward line, and in an ideal world, a move for Manchester United‘s Marcus Rashford on loan. However their ability to do a deal is in serious doubt.

First and foremost, before they can think about signing Rashford, Barcelona must secure exits for at least one, if not two, players in order to clear sufficient space in their salary limit to make a move for Rashford. Sport note that one of the few Barcelona players that could beon the way out is Ansu Fati, but he remains set on staying at the club, despite being left out of the squad for the last four games.

Fati’s intent on staying could end their pursuit of Rashford, although there is a chance that Eric Garcia could leave for Girona, but that deal is set to be left until the final days of the transfer market if it happens at all, as both clubs try to get the best deal. However time is not on Barcelona’s side with Rashford, as Borussia Dortmund are believied to be preparing an offer for the England international too, and will go through with it if Erik ten Hag is appointed as manager this week. Dortmund have just brought in €25m for Donyell Malen in a deal with Aston Villa, and have money to invest.

Certainly the presence of a more natural forward on the left has been missed by Barcelona this season to alternate with Raphinha, with Fati clearly not trusted by Hansi Flick. However the forward line is just one of several areas where Barcelona are lacking in depth, with Marc Casado, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde all going without regular rest.
