Barcelona have been handed a significant opportunity to sign Viktor Gyokeres, one of Europe’s most in-form strikers, at a reduced price.

According to SPORT, Sporting CP are now open to lowering their previously rigid demands for the Swedish goal machine, offering renewed hope to the Catalans.

Gyokeres has been a revelation this season, leading the scoring charts and attracting widespread interest from top European clubs.

His powerful presence, ability to carry the ball, and lethal finishing make him an ideal modern forward — something Barcelona might look for in the summer.

The 26-year-old’s impressive consistency has not gone unnoticed at Barça, but until now, his €100 million release clause had made any potential move financially impossible for the Blaugrana.

Sporting ready to negotiate

That scenario might be about to change as Sporting, recognising Gyokeres’ loyalty in staying until the end of the campaign, are now willing to facilitate a move for a fee in the range of €65 to €80 million as a gesture of appreciation.

This concession dramatically changes the landscape, especially for clubs like Barcelona, who continue to be held back by Financial Fair Play constraints.

While the new price range still presents a challenge for Barça’s tight budget, it brings the striker within touching distance.

The club’s sporting department, led by Deco, is fully aware of the need for a world-class No. 9, and Gyokeres ticks many of the boxes.

Competition for Gyokeres

However, the path to Gyokeres is anything but clear. Barcelona face stiff competition from Premier League giants such as Manchester United and Arsenal, both of whom have greater financial flexibility.

Furthermore, with Alexander Isak also remaining on Barcelona’s radar, the Catalans may need to prioritise one target over the other.

Isak’s La Liga experience and tactical flexibility may offer an edge, but Gyokeres’ current form and potential ceiling make him an equally enticing option.

Ultimately, the decision may rest on how much financial room Barcelona can create in the coming months.

With the club hoping to return to the 1:1 rule by resolving certain internal issues — including the VIP seat revenue dispute — a summer move for a top striker is certainly not off the table.
