According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have taken an important decision towards safeguarding their long-term sporting project by agreeing to meet the expectations of teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal.
With the club viewing the 17-year-old as a cornerstone for the future, his contract renewal has now become a top priority—and the Catalans appear willing to go all in.
Yamal, who has already cemented himself as one of the brightest young talents in world football, has made his intentions clear.
Although he wants to stay at Barça, he expects a new deal that reflects his importance not just within the club, but also on the international stage.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has communicated these demands to the club, and Barcelona have responded positively.
The Blaugrana are aware that Yamal is no longer just a youth talent making promising appearances. He is a full international, a regular starter and someone already being targeted by top clubs across Europe.

Given that, the forward believes his next deal should place him among the club’s top earners—a view that is reportedly shared by the club’s sporting leadership.
As such, Deco has classified Yamal as a future leader of the dressing room, alongside other major figures, and is therefore ready to move him into the highest salary bracket at the club.
Although financial difficulties remain—particularly with the club still not operating under La Liga’s 1:1 rule due to pending VIP seat revenue issues—Barcelona are confident the matter will be resolved by May.
Still, Mendes’ camp remains cautiously optimistic. The agent has seen how unpredictable negotiations can be, particularly when finances are tight.
While both sides have agreed in principle, nothing has been put on paper just yet. The plan is for Yamal to sign his new contract around his 18th birthday—July 13 or 14—when he becomes eligible to sign a long-term professional deal.
For now, Barça are trying to project calm. They believe Yamal is fully committed to the club and understands his role in its future.
The player, for his part, has never shown signs of wanting to leave, and all communication with his entourage suggests that he remains focused on succeeding at the club he joined as a child.
Amidst all this, it is important to note that the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool are keeping an eye on the situation, but neither Barcelona nor Yamal are affected by these distractions.
