It has been a special week for Lamine Yamal who added the latest feather to his cap after being crowned the Best Emerging Player by Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai last night.

The youngster collected his crown at the event and even earned praise from some of the game’s greats including Rio Ferdinand and Gerard Pique.

His accolades and latest award aside, Yamal continues to fight a battle against time to recover from his injury at the earliest and make it in time for Barcelona’s big games in January, and MARCA has provided an update on the same.

Recovery on the right track

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, there is now growing optimism in Catalonia that Yamal will make it in time for the Spanish Super Cup next month.

Initially ruled out for three to four weeks, his participation in the event was in doubt. However, his recovery is progressing very well and there are good sensations over his ability to play even the game against Athletic Club.

The player has worked very hard to recover since the injury and could feature on January 8th in Saudi Arabia. Needless to say, the club will also exercise caution with him and field him only if he is at his 100%.

Yamal is expected to start training with the team soon and it will be Hansi Flick who takes the final call on when he is to be incorporated. After all, the German coach is not one to take risks with injured stars.

So far this season, Yamal has scored five goals and provided nine assists for Barcelona in La Liga and has emerged as one of the team’s single-most decisive players in the face of adversity.

Having him back in full swing for the Spanish Super Cup is critical, for the team’s first trophy of the season is on the line.
