Ansu Fati’s future at Barcelona has taken yet another uncertain turn, with his agent Jorge Mendes admitting that he does not know where the young forward will play next season.
Speaking to El Chiringuito (h/t MARCA), Mendes offered a vague update, saying, “He’s fine. Everything’s fine,” but when pressed on whether Ansu would remain at Barça, his response was blunt: “I don’t know yet.”
It is a response that reflects the uncomfortable truth at Barcelona—Ansu, once heralded as Lionel Messi’s natural heir, is now on the fringes of the project under Hansi Flick.
Despite the manager recently claiming that Ansu “has taken a step forward,” the reality is that the 22-year-old continues to struggle for game time and consistency.
His start against Mallorca was seen as a possible turning point, but sources suggest it was more circumstantial than a true vote of confidence.

Ansu’s contract runs until 2027, but his high salary and patchy form are proving to be a challenge for Barcelona’s financial and sporting plans.
The club is keen to reinforce the left wing, which naturally casts more doubt over his role. With reinforcements expected and competition intensifying, the once untouchable La Masia prodigy finds himself increasingly expendable.
Barcelona’s hierarchy—particularly sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta—are expected to hold conversations with Jorge Mendes soon to evaluate all possible scenarios.
These could include a season-long loan to a club that can guarantee regular playing time, a permanent transfer if a good offer arrives, or even, in a more extreme situation, a mutual contract termination to ease the wage bill.
The 22-year-old’s decline has been one of the more disappointing storylines at Barcelona in recent years.
Injuries halted his meteoric rise, and since returning, he has not looked the same player who once wore the No. 10 shirt with promise.
