Barcelona tracking 20-year-old midfielder crowned Africa’s ‘Best Young Player of the Year’ for 2024 | OneFootball

Last summer, FC Barcelona were linked with a slew of midfielders only for the club to find solutions to their problems in La Masia in the form of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado.

One of the names that the Catalan giants were closely tracking as a cost-effective option to reinforce the midfield department was Lamine Camara.

Playing for FC Metz in Ligue 1 at the time, the young midfielder had registered on the Blaugrana’s radars but nothing came of it as Hansi Flick put his faith in Casado and Bernal.

Barcelona still tracking Camara

While they may not have signed Camara last summer, Toni Juanmarti now reports that Barcelona are continuing to track the 20-year-old midfield prodigy.

The Blaugrana might not have made a move for the Senegalese talent in the summer but he did secure a big move as AS Monaco snapped him up from Metz, and he is thriving there, with two goals and assists apiece from 18 games.

In fact, Camara was voted the CAF’s Best Young Player of the Year for 2024 earlier today, indicating the talent and potential that he possesses.

Naturally, Barcelona are said to be still closely following the youngster, who can play in multiple roles in the centre of the park.

As things stand, the La Liga leaders are well-stocked in the centre of the park but there have been speculations about the future of Frenkie de Jong, whose contract situation remains unresolved.

Pablo Torre is another player who has found minutes hard to come by and might consider a departure in the summer if the situation does not improve.

In such a scenario, Camara could become an option again for Barcelona. For now, though, they are just tracking the young midfielder’s development at Monaco.
