Barcelona were forced to enter the market for an emergency signing after the transfer window had closed in the summer due to an injury to captain and first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
After much speculation, the Blaugrana ended up signing Wojciech Szczesny, coaxing him out of retirement and securing him on a contract until the end of the season.
While the veteran goalkeeper had to wait for a long time for his debut in the Barça colours, he has since displaced Inaki Pena as the preferred option in goal under Hansi Flick.
So much so that there has been talk of Deco wanting to keep Szczesny at the club for one more season.
Now, Szczesny has admitted that even though he was reluctant at first, he is now open to the idea of staying at Barcelona beyond his current contract which expires on June 30, 2025.

“If you asked me at the start of the season, I’d say I’ll be leaving Barça in June. But I love the time I‘ve spent here…,” said Szczesny, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“My family is happy, my son loves his school, my wife loves being here… I’m open to everything,” he added.
This comes as a major development and could hint at the former Arsenal and Juventus continuing at Barcelona beyond the ongoing season.
Szczesny has yet to lose a game playing for Barça and even though he made a few critical errors early on, has now grown into a figure that is trusted by Flick.
If he does end up staying, though, it would possibly mean the end of the road for Inaki Pena at Barcelona as Ter Stegen will be back next season as the first-choice starter and the Pole would operate as the backup.
