FC Barcelona are waiting to find out the fair play margin they will have in the ongoing winter transfer window.

The Catalan club’s primary objective is to secure a top-tier forward to address deficiencies in the attacking line, a need identified since last summer.

Barcelona’s focus appears to be on finding a forward who can operate on the left flank and through the middle, contribute goals, and provide versatility.

Alexander Isak the preferred option

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, among the options that Barcelona are considering, they admire the profile of Newcastle United and Sweden striker Alexander Isak the most and see him as their preferred target.

The former Real Sociedad player, who cost Newcastle €70 million in 2022, has been in excellent form this season, already plundering 15 goals in 22 matches while registering four assists as well.

But, as per the report, he is keen on consistent Champions League football – something Newcastle may not secure this season.

Barcelona view Isak as an ideal candidate due to his technical skill, versatility, and ability to score both inside and outside the penalty area.

Significantly, Isak is now considered a more attractive option than Viktor Gyokeres, the Sporting CP forward, because of his superior technical ability and adaptability.

Furthermore, his addition could provide a long-term solution as the 36-year-old Robert Lewandowski approaches the latter stages of his career.

Other potential targets on Barcelona’s radar include Liverpool’s Luis Diaz (27) and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao (25).

Both players, however, are unlikely to move in January due to their importance to their respective clubs, who are competing at the highest level domestically and in Europe.

Transfer strategy

Barcelona’s transfer activity hinges on its ability to generate funds. The Blaugrana, as such, are exploring options to create financial flexibility through potential player sales.

The likes of Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia, and Frenkie de Jong are seen as saleable assets if good offers arrive.

Meanwhile, Barça are also looking at deals involving former players such as Oscar Mingueza and Trincao, which will leave some cash in their coffers. Meanwhile, loanee Clement Lenglet could be permanently transferred to Atletico Madrid as well.

If sufficient funds are raised, Barcelona aim to make a strong push for top-level signings, consistent with club president Joan Laporta’s ambitions to reinforce the squad with high-calibre players.
