Up next for FC Barcelona is a massive game, as they are set to take on Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final. For La Blaugrana, the path to a treble either truly starts here or ends here. As the first of the last three remaining major titles, Barcelona have a lot on the line here.

However, if this team has shown anything this season, it is their ability to take on the biggest of challenges and come out victorious. While Los Blancos will present themselves as a tough hurdle to overcome, Barça need to feel confident about their own chances as well.

Match Overview:

After all, Hansi Flick’s team has been through some immensely tough challenges to get to this point. While Real Madrid barely managed to get past Real Sociedad, Barcelona had to fight their way through to the final by taking on Atletico Madrid is a highly demanding tie.

However, this will be far from the first time that both Barcelona and Real Madrid have met this season. Previously, they have already encountered each other on two separate occasions, playing once in both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.

On both of those occasions, La Blaugrana ended up emerging as the winners. The first game, held at the Santiago Bernabeu, saw Barcelona completely decimate Real Madrid with a 4-0 score-line at their home stadium. Then, in the Spanish Super Cup final, Barça managed to win in dominant fashion yet again.

Since then, both teams have been working on their respective seasons. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, they are no longer in the UEFA Champions League and their focus is primarily devoted towards both the Copa del Rey and the La Liga title.

Barcelona, on the other hand, are hoping to pursue a potential continental treble. Still alive in all three competitions, they have a lot of work to do if they want to make that dream of theirs a reality. However, the first step towards that treble either starts against Carlo Ancelotti’s side or ends with it as well.

In terms of form, Real Madrid have won three of their last five games across all competitions and have lost the other two, both to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League. Across these five games, they have scored four goals in total and have conceded five in return.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have four wins in their last five games across all competitions. They have won against the likes of RCD Mallorca, Celta Vigo, Leganes, and Borussia Dortmund. The one loss that they do have did come against Dortmund as well, but it was in the second leg of their UCL tie.

In total, Hansi Flick’s side has managed to score 11 goals in the last five games and have conceded seven in return. They do have a positive balance in terms of goal difference, but La Blaugrana will need to be extremely clinical against Real Madrid.

However, heading into this game, Flick’s side will be missing two important players due to injury. Both Alejandro Balde and Robert Lewandowski will not be available for Barcelona in this important final. Fortunately, La Blaugrana have a positive record so far this season even when the Polish centre-forward has not been available.

A big opportunity for either team, it is a game where both sides will come with their own motivation. For Barcelona, that motivation will be the potential treble itself, whereas Real Madrid will be looking to stop the Catalan giants from pursuing their objective.
