The arrival of Hansi Flick on the FC Barcelona bench has benefitted a lot of Blaugrana players, and this is most clearly the case for the veteran striker Robert Lewandowski. The Pole is once again performing at his best level, and with 32 goals scored this season, he is among the best strikers in Europe this season.

But in spite of these good performances, his advancing age still remains an issue, and previously, the Catalans were reportedly looking to bring in a younger striker in the next summer transfer window to replace Lewandowski for the long term.

However, according to SPORT, this is no longer the case as Barcelona have decided to extend the Polish forward’s contract by another year even before he has played the stipulated number of matches in his contract that would have provided him with an automatic one-year extension.

Furthermore, the Blaugranes have also let it known in the market that they will not be looking for another center-forward this summer, and thus, big names like Viktor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak, who had both been offered to the Catalans, are ruled out for a potential move.

While, Lewandowski will automatically have gotten an extension, keeping in view the high number of games he is playing under Hansi Flick this season, the new contract offered by Barcelona can open the door for his continuity even beyond 2026, as the Catalans will keep a unilateral option to extend his contract by another year, to 2027.

Although he will be 37 years old this summer, the Pole believes he will still be able to play at the highest level for two more years. Thus, the Blaugranes will have the option to assess his performance before committing to keep him till 2027.

Thus, with a new center-forward ruled out for the summer, Barcelona will be focusing on adding another attacking player to their squad, i.e., a right winger, .
