At the start of the season, it seemed like this could be Pablo Torre’s breakthrough year at Barcelona.

The young midfielder, who spent the previous campaign on loan at Girona, capitalised on early-season injuries to secure a spot in the team, but as the season progressed, his involvement diminished significantly.

Indeed, so far this season, he has played just 373 minutes across 12 matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

Whenever he has featured, Torre has made a decisive impact on the team’s offensive play. However, Hansi Flick has consistently opted for other players, many of whom have recently signed long-term contracts, leaving the youngster’s future uncertain.

Barcelona’s plans with Torre

Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona remain convinced of Torre’s talent and are keen to extend his contract by at least one more year, so that he can go out on loan and prove his abilities with the hope of returning stronger in the future.

If Torre does not agree to a contract extension, the club are prepared to facilitate a permanent transfer this summer.

Torre stayed at Barcelona last summer after both the sporting management and Hansi Flick requested him to continue. There have never been any concerns about his professionalism or potential – the issue is simply the high level of competition in midfield.

In January, the Blaugrana opened the door for a loan move to give him more playing time. Several clubs, including Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Valencia, and various foreign teams, expressed interest, but Torre chose to stay at the club until June.

Barcelona are clear that they do not want Torre to enter the final year of his contract without having extended his deal.

The club’s plan is to offer a short-term extension before loaning him out to allow him to gain more experience. The goal is either to increase his market value or prepare him for a first-team role from 2026 onwards.

Discussions are ongoing, and early indications suggest that Torre is open to staying at Barcelona – but only if there is a clear and well-defined sporting project.

One alternative being considered is a shared transfer where Barcelona retain a portion of his rights or includes a buy-back clause. Sporting director Deco is eager to resolve the matter before June, aiming to find the best solution for both the player and the club.

It is unlikely that Torre will receive more playing time for the remainder of the campaign unless La Liga is decided earlier than expected, allowing Flick to reward fringe players.
