FC Barcelona reached a deal with Nike for a new sponsorship contract. The successful conclusion of negotiations for this deal can go a long way in solving the financial problems being faced by the Catalan club.
However, even the income obtained by this new sponsorship agreement will not be enough, as the Blaugranes would need even more cash to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in January, or to return to the 1:1 rule that would make it significantly easier for them to get new players from the market.
One such source of income could be the sale of players who are not essential for Hansi Flick. According to Fichajes, one such player, Eric Garcia, is quite in demand and has already become a target for two big Premier League sides, Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Both of these clubs want to strengthen their defensive lines and are interested in the Barcelona center-back. This is particularly because of the versatility shown by Garcia over the last few years, as in addition to being a center-back, he can also play as a full-back or higher-up on the pitch as a midfield pivot.
Furthermore, he also has experience playing in the Premier League, as he played for Manchester City before joining Barcelona, and thus would not need a lot of time to adapt to the competition.
Thus, Chelsea are particularly interested in him, as they look to strengthen their backline amid the inconsistent showings from Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile. They are looking for a defender who can offer immediate security as well as long-term projection, and Garcia meets this criteria.
Similarly, Newcastle United are also looking for depth and more quality in their defense to compete at the highest level in Europe.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will also be looking forward to his sale, as they already have a surplus of defenders and need cash right now. They can part ways with him for an offer of around €25 million.
