The Brazilian winger Raphinha once again made the difference as he helped FC Barcelona get a statement 4-0 win against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie.

The Canarinha star was also one of the goalscorers, even though one can argue he was quite lucky to get this goal to his name.

It was the defender Pau Cubarsi who could easily have gotten this goal to his name, as his shot was going to end up in the back of the net even if Raphinha had not gotten a touch on it.

Furthermore, the Brazilian was barely in an onside position when he got this touch, and thus, there was quite some suspense as VAR intervened to give its final verdict on his goal.

But ultimately, the goal stood, and Raphinha extended his UCL tally to 12 goals in this match. As Mundo Deportivo has noted, this means he is now only two goals short of equaling Lionel Messi’s Barcelona record of 14 goals in a single Champions League edition.

Furthermore, he also extended his lead at the top of the scorers chart in the UCL. With these 12 goals, he is 2 goals ahead of Serhou Guirassy, who was also on the pitch last night, but was unable to add any more goals to his tally.

Furthermore, another competitor for the top scorer’s honour in the competition was playing with Raphinha last night, i.e., Robert Lewandowsk, who remains only 1 goal behind the Brazilian in this list.

With the way Barcelona are playing and how Raphinha has been scoring this season, he has 28 goals and 19 assists to his name so far, the Samba star seemed on course to break Messi’s record in the UCL.

This would undoubtedly be a great achievement for the Brazilian, and hopefully, he will be able to reach it while also lifting the trophy at the end of the season.
