Over the last two years, Lamine Yamal has emerged as one of the best players in Europe. Despite still being only 17 years of age, the Barcelona wonderkid is proving to be one of the most prodigious players in Europe and is already a star in every sense of the word.
However, his ascent into stardom has not really made the winger forget his roots. In addition to the affection that he shows for his place of origin in his interviews and celebrations, this attachment is also clear from his practice of observing Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting.
As is the case with the rest of the Muslims, Yamal is also practicing fasting in this month of Ramadan. In fact, he played the last game against Atletico Madrid while he was fasting, and broke the fast mid-game when the sun set.
It was clear that his fasting was not impacting his game too much, as he came up with an amazing goal to give his side the lead for the first time.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Spaniard revealed the routine that he follows in this month of Ramadan.
Yamal shared that he wakes up at 4 AM to have breakfast, and he also takes a water-soluble pill that helps him remain hydrated for the length of his fast. However, he revealed he can get some extra sleep later in the day:
“I get up later than the rest of my teammates because I don’t go down for breakfast.”
After training during the day, the winger spends the rest of the time praying or relaxing:
“I pray, grab my phone, and do nothing else until it’s time to break my fast.”
Yamal’s performance against Atletico was incredible nonetheless, but the fact that he put in that performance while he was fasting makes his feat even more praiseworthy.
He will have some more matches to play, both with the Spanish national team and Barcelona, before the end of Ramadan, and hopefully, he will treat the fans to some other such amazing performances during this time.
