Barcelona’s financial complications continue to cast a shadow over the club’s ambitions, with the latest obstacle potentially jeopardising Lamine Yamal’s long-term future.
According to a report from AS, the VIP seats issue is now looming large over the Blaugrana’s efforts to renew the contracts of key players, particularly the teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
The trouble stems from Barcelona’s decision to abandon the 1:1 rule, a move forced by their current financial predicaments.
This rule, had it been adhered to, would have allowed the club to make player registrations and renewals without needing to offload talent.
Unfortunately, recent financial reports submitted to La Liga did not include the expected €100 million income from the sale of 5% of the VIP boxes operation over the next 30 years.
So with the VIP boxes still unfinished, the expected revenue remains nothing more than a projection—an alarming scenario for a club desperate to create financial room to renew its brightest talent.
Yamal’s contract renewal has quickly become a priority for Barcelona, especially considering the player’s exceptional potential to become a franchise star for the next decade.

However, the club’s financial struggles mean that offering him a deal that reflects his value is becoming increasingly difficult.
His agent, Jorge Mendes, has already rejected several proposals from the club, indicating that Barcelona’s financial difficulties are complicating negotiations.
Despite that, Mendes has assured that Yamal intends to stay, but the delay in formalising the renewal leaves room for doubt.
If Barcelona cannot find a way to account for the €100 million revenue from the VIP boxes before the summer, they may be forced to make a sale to free up the necessary funds.
Such a scenario would only add to the club’s ongoing struggle to maintain a competitive squad under stringent financial conditions.
Mendes is pressing for a lucrative contract that matches Yamal’s potential, but Barcelona’s hands are tied until they can legitimise the VIP box revenue.
If the issue remains unresolved, the Catalan club may have to wait until July to finalise Yamal’s renewal.
The timing couldn’t be worse as the club’s financial woes continue to collide with crucial moments on the pitch. The pressure is mounting on Barcelona to resolve their financial instability before it derails their long-term vision.
