Bayern Munich will add more quality in defense during the summer transfer window since Eric Dier will leave the club. The Bavarian club tried to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but they couldn’t agree on a fee with the Bundesliga champions. Bayern had planned Hiroki Ito and Tah as two defensive signings for the summer, with Matthijs de Ligt leaving the club to join Manchester United.
Tah had agreed personal terms with Die Roten, but an impasse over transfer fee scuppered the move. FC Barcelona have taken the lead in signing Tah from Leverkusen at the end of the season. The German defender has held talks with Barcelona since he decided against signing a new contract at Bayer Leverkusen.
Earlier this season, Tah’s agent- Pini Zahavi, had insisted that Bayern remain in the race to sign Tah. However, they need to proactively negotiate with Tah’s representatives to beat Barcelona.
According to Bild’s Christian Falk (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern are not giving up in the pursuit of Jonathan Tah. Max Eberl remains keen on signing the German defender on free agent in the summer. Bayern will go toe to toe with FC Barcelona, while Real Madrid are also keen admirers of Tah.
It is no secret that Bayern will go all out for Florian Wirtz next summer. Bayer Leverkusen will not settle for anything less than €100 million for the German forward. Wirtz will take up a significant portion of Die Roten’s budget for next summer. In such a scenario, Rekordmeister will have to make shrewd signings in other positions.
Tah has been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga over the last 18 months. He has been a leader at the back for Leverkusen during last season’s domestic double win. The German defender will add quality and experience to the squad at Bayern and improve the defensive options for Vincent Kompany.
It is a no-brainer for Bayern to sign Tah on a free transfer. Considering the overall package he brings to the table, Rekordmeister should make him one of the priority signings for the summer. However, it is not going to be as straightforward a deal as it would have been last summer.
With FC Barcelona and Real Madrid showing concrete interest in Tah, Bayern have to submit an exciting financial package. The next few weeks could be defining in the race to sign Tah at the end of the season.
