Having returned to the 1:1 rule, FC Barcelona can undertake their market operations with greater strength, as they will now have a significantly easier path to getting any new players registered once they have been bought by the Catalan club.
Previously, the Blaugranes were operating under the 1:4 rule, which meant they had to bring in four times an amount in income than what a new player would cost in transfer fees, wages, agent fees, etc.
Being subject to such difficult financial rules, Barcelona went into the last few markets with a significant handicap, and thus were unable to make their moves for some of the players they believed could have significantly strengthened their team.
One such player who has been linked with the Blaugrana club for the last few years is the German midfielder, Joshua Kimmich. He has been linked with the Catalans since Sergio Busquets left the club, and still continues to remain linked with them as Flick would reportedly love to have him in his team.
His contractual situation at Bayern Munich also makes him an attractive target for Barcelona, as his contract is ending at the end of this season and there is still no agreement for a renewal between the two sides.
In fact, things are only worsening between them, as SPORT reports that the midfielder has not yet given any answer about his intentions to the Bavarian club despite the fact that Bayern had asked him to make his plans clear before January 5th.
In such a context, the Bundesliga side believes Kimmich is waiting for some concrete interest from Barcelona or the Premier League before making a final decision about his future.
Despite Flick’s presence, getting Kimmich will not be easy for Barcelona because of his economic demands. Still, they understand that he is an interesting player who can play both as a pivot and as a right-back, and their interest in the player can heat up if it becomes clear that he is looking to leave Bayern this summer.
Meanwhile, the German midfielder is also attracting a lot of attention from elsewhere, as Manchester City, Manchester United, and PSG are also keeping an eye on him.
