German giants Bayern Munich have taken another step toward their return to the top of the Bundesliga pile come the end of the season after a 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Scorers: Kane (pen) 68'
After closing out the Hinrunde with a 2-1 loss against Mainz back in December, Vincent Kompany's troops were largely back to their dominant best against a Gladbach side that offered little in the way of opposition at Borussia-Park.
The lone goal of the match came by way of none other than England star Harry Kane, who once again remained cool under pressure when he converted his effort from the spot in the 68th minute to convert his 26th consecutive penalty.
It was Kane's 15th goal in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season, with the 31-year-old remaining the vital cog in the wheel in Bavaria.
If there is any criticism of Bayern on the night, surely it comes in the vein of the club's inability to truly put Gladbach away by a more comfortable scoreline.
Having dominated possession (68%) and crafting nearly four times the chances of Gladbach, while also creating five big chances on the night, Bayern can, in a way, count themselves lucky that Gerardo Seoane's outfit were unable to steal a point which would otherwise have been wholly undeserved.
Bayern will now play host to relegation-threatened Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday with a chance to further extend their lead at the top as Bayer Leverkusen face a tricky test against Mainz at BayArena.
