Manchester United lost to Tottenham Hotspur in a seven-goal thriller in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
Spurs were comfortably 3-0 ahead by the 54th minute. However, Fraser Forster made two mistakes, which allowed United to score twice.
Heung-min Son scored directly from a corner in the 88th minute to make it 4-2.
An injury-time headed goal from Jonny Evans came too late as United were knocked out of the competition.
After missing the Manchester derby, Alejandro Garnacho returned to the squad, but Marcus Rashford was left out again.
Speaking after the game, Amorim said (via BeanymanSports): “I felt I did the right thing for the team (his selections) – it was never a mistake.
“You have to make a selection, the guys who went inside the pitch changed the game. It was not a mistake because I am doing the best for my team in my way of doing things.”
Amorim seems to be rigid with his assessment of Rashford. After being left out of two consecutive matchdays despite no injury, Rashford’s time at United looks to be up.
Amorim was proactive in making substitutions against Spurs. He made four substitutions well before the hour mark.
Each of them made a positive impact, bringing United closer to a stunning comeback.
However, another howler from Bayindir made it impossible for United to make further inroads.
Rashford prefers to play as a traditional left winger, a position which does not exist in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation.
It will be better for the ‘unstoppable‘ forward to find a new club in January.
