The Lancashire side announced the news via a post on their official club X account this morning.
Riglar sustained the injury during the first half of Blackburn Rovers’ Barclays Women’s Championship fixture at Birmingham City last weekend. She went down in the 22nd minute and had to be replaced by Niamh Murphy.
The defender’s injury has now been fully-assessed by the Blackburn Rovers medical staff and it has been confirmed that she has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Riglar will miss the remainder of the season while she goes through the rehabilitation process.
The injury is a real blow for both the player and the club. Riglar only joined Blackburn Rovers in the summer and she has started all five of the club’s matches in all competitions this season. Riglar’s long-term absence means that Blackburn Rovers’ small squad will be depleted further. It is not known whether head coach Simon Parker will now look to bring in cover for Riglar or whether the budget will allow for further additions.
Blackburn Rovers are next in Barclays Women’s Championship action on Sunday when they travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City.
