Niko Kovač’s second match in charge was difficult on paper. While Liga Portugal is frequently overlooked, it does contain certain well-known teams like Porto, Benfica, and Sporting. Sporting is currently leading its domestic league. Portuguese sides are notoriously difficult to beat in their own stadiums, but that wasn’t the case for Borussia Dortmund today.
In the first half, Dortmund looked a bit shaky. Sporting created the more dangerous chances, utilizing the flanks to set up their strikers. On another day, Sporting may have taken the lead by halftime, but most of their dangerous shots were aimed directly at Gregor Kobel.
