Ruhr Nachrichten report this evening that Borussia Dortmund have signed defensive talent Filippo Mane (19) to a new long-term contract.
Mane signed the contract at Dortmund’s Brackel HQ on Saturday with sporting director Sebastian Kehl, head coach Nuri Sahin and the player’s family all present. The Italian youth international is the latest Dortmund player to sign his first professional contract, following Kjell Wätjen and Cole Campbell in recent months.
Per RN, it brings an end to weeks of negotiations between Mane, the player’s entourage and Dortmund while at one point, it didn’t look like an agreement could be reached after the player initially hesitated after Sahin didn’t rely on the defender even when the club were short.
As a result of his hesitance, several Italian clubs showed an interest in signing Mane but the player didn’t want to rush into making a decision, and instead wanted to check his future prospects of playing for Borussia Dortmund.
RN further report that Lars Ricken has noted in previous weeks that he believes that Mane can make the step up to the first team and could yet make his debut this season having been named in the professional squad seven times.
