Following their humiliating loss at the hands of Argentina this week, Brazil are again considering a change of managers, with Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti on their radar again.

The Selecao were intent on bringing the Italian tactician on board in 2023 but he ended up staying at the Santiago Bernabeu and signing a new contract until 2026.

Brazil, as a resulted, ended up naming Dorival Junior as the new head coach but things are not going well under his tutelage, with a change being considered.

Now, according to GE Globo, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has resumed efforts to secure Carlo Ancelotti as the next head coach of the Brazil national team for the 2026 World Cup.

Despite being under contract with Real Madrid, Ancelotti remains the top choice of CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who is also evaluating how to handle the possible departure of current coach Dorival Junior.

Initial contacts with Ancelotti were positive, but the Italian coach has made it clear that any further discussions will have to wait until after the FIFA Club World Cup, which Real Madrid will play in the United States from June to July.

Before the Club World Cup, Brazil has two important World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Both matches are scheduled for early June, leaving Rodrigues with a decision to make. Should he keep Dorival until then or appoint an interim coach while negotiations with Ancelotti continue? This remains one of the key dilemmas for the CBF president.

While the conversations with Ancelotti are being kept under wraps, the current situation is seen as more favourable than it was two years ago when the CBF first considered the Real Madrid manager.

The Merengues’ links with Xabi Alonso as a potential Ancelotti successor also adds some fuel to the speculation.

As such, Brazil’s strategy is to exhaust all possibilities with the Real Madrid boss before approaching alternative candidates.
