The Black Cats could lose one of their most promising youngsters before the deadline on Monday night, with Tommy Watson on Brighton's radar.
Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion have entered talks to try and recruit Sunderland winger Tommy Watson.
This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who believes the Seagulls are pushing for a deal for the teenager, who is one of several talented youngsters at the Stadium of Light.
Despite the fact he's only 18, Watson has been able to play under Regis Le Bris this season, getting himself on the scoresheet on a couple of occasions in the process.
But injuries to his knee and ankle have meant he hasn't appeared since December, with the player not due back for the Black Cats just yet.
Back in mid-December, it was revealed that he would spend around two months of action, which is a massive shame for the player considering he was establishing himself as an important player before his setback.
His brace against Stoke City last month showcased exactly what he can do, but it remains to be seen whether the Wearside club's supporters have seen him in the red and white stripes for the last time, with the player attracting interest ahead of the deadline.
Brighton have taken an interest in the player before, showing an interest in the summer and having multiple bids turned down during the previous window.
But that hasn't deterred the Seagulls in their quest to recruit the player, with the club now back in talks with the Black Cats to try and recruit him.
This is according to Romano, who believes Le Bris' side are reluctant to cash in on the winger at this stage.
However, an exit can't be ruled out, with the player only having 18 months left on his contract at this stage.
The player may only have 18 months left on his contract, but Watson has unfinished business at the Stadium of Light.
With Jack Clarke leaving the club in the summer, they need someone else who's going to step up to the plate and be an asset for the long term.
Watson, who has already shone at first-team level, could be the answer out wide, along with Romaine Mundle.
Patrick Roberts is another good option to have, but Watson is only 18 at this stage and will only increase in value if he improves and is willing to sign a new contract.
