Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he intends to return Aurélien Tchouaméni to his natural position in the middle of the park in the near future.
Tchouaméni has for his part of course come in for a fresh round of criticism over the course of recent days.
This comes after the Frenchman was responsible for the latest in a string of underwhelming displays.
Afforded a starting berth at the heart of defence in Real Madrid’s Spanish Super Cup showdown with Barcelona, Tchouaméni struggled badly, en route to an eventual 5-2 defeat.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of his side’s Copa del Rey meeting with Celta Vigo on Thursday, the subject of his underperforming star’s recent woes was in turn put to boss Carlo Ancelotti.
And Real Madrid’s headmaster, after first moving to defend Tchouaméni, went on to confirm his plans to return the former Monaco man to his berth at the base of midfield, once David Alaba has recovered full fitness:
“Tchouaméni? I’m convinced he did well at centre-back because the stats say so but I know this is not his position. When Alaba returns, Tchouaméni will return to midfield.”
