Fiorentina midfielder Danilo Cataldi texted Edoardo Bove this morning to tell him he’d score against Cagliari, but the ex-Roma midfielder replied that it was ‘impossible.’

Fiorentina won their eighth consecutive Serie A match on Sunday, beating Cagliari 1-0 at the Stadio Franchi.

Cataldi scored the winner in the first half and dedicated the goal to his friend and teammate Bove.

Cataldi ran towards one of the pitchside cameras, mimicking the No.4 and shouting, ‘I told you, I told you.’

“The celebration was a joke between me and him,” Cataldi told DAZN after the final whistle.

“I texted him before the match, saying: ‘Watch the game on TV because I am going to score a goal into the top corner.’ He said it was ‘impossible.’ We are happy he’s feeling well and about these three points,” the ex-Lazio midfielder continued.

Cataldi and Bove may have joined Fiorentina from Lazio and Roma but have become close friends in Florence. The ex-Biancocelesti midfielder has visited his teammate at the hospital almost every day since he collapsed on the pitch in a match against Inter last week.

“I am happy the goal brought the three points; this is fundamental,” continued Cataldi.

“It was a crucial game for our path, and I am super happy because Fiorentina are up there, and we deserve it.”

Robin Gosens joined Cataldi for a post-match press conference.

“I’ve felt at home since the very first moment here. I’m proud to be part of this team,” said the German full-back.

“We dominated the first half and dropped a little after the break, perhaps a bit too much, but we fought and suffered together. When you win these dirty games, it means that we are a big family.

“It’s spectacular to be up there. I’ve been lucky to play for these targets, but at the same time, it means we must continue working hard. It makes no sense to dream big now, but we footballers must work hard, have fun and do our best to see what happens. This is a great result.”
