Real Madrid host Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. After being trumped 3-0 in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium last Tuesday, Carlo Ancelotti’s men will have to produce a historic performance if they are to overturn the tie.
The Whites will be without Andriy Lunin, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy as they are all injured, while Eduardo Camavinga also misses out through suspension. Here is a look at their potential playing eleven for the last eight fixture against the Gunners.
Goalkeeper – Thibaut Courtois
Courtois was in fantastic form last week and has kept Real Madrid alive with the very slightest of hopes in the tie. He is set to start between the sticks once more.
Right Back – Federico Valverde
Valverde is set to take over at right back from Lucas Vazquez. The Spaniard put on a decent showing in the Alaves game on Sunday but will be back on the bench again.
Centre Back – Raul Asencio
Asencio is expected to keep his place in the team and feature in the heart of the backline once more.
Centre Back – Antonio Rudiger
Rudiger is the favourite to partner with Asencio, thus retaining his spot in the team too.
Left Back – Fran Garcia
Los Blancos need more energy going forward as compared to last week, so Fran Garcia could be picked at left-back ahead of David Alaba in the second leg.
Defensive Midfielder – Aurelien Tchouameni
Tchouameni was suspended for the first leg and was a huge miss for Real Madrid. He is back this time out, however, and is set to play as the holding midfielder.
Right Midfielder – Jude Bellingham
Bellingham is set to be deployed as the right midfielder on paper although he will have the license to roam freely around the pitch, as always.
Left Midfielder – Dani Ceballos
Ceballos is set to make his first start in over six weeks against a side his spent time with on loan. The Spaniard’s ability to make tidy passes will be vital against Arsenal’s low block.
Right Winger – Rodrygo Goes
Rodrygo is set to feature on the right flank. He scored in Madrid’s last game at the Bernabeu in the Champions League and will have to be crucial again.
Striker – Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe is Real Madrid’s top goal-scorer this season in all competitions and with the team needing his contribution more than ever, he will have to put his best foot forward as he leads the line.
Left Winger – Vinicius Junior
Vinicius has been decisive for the White team more often than not in the Champions League knockouts and Wednesday is the perfect opportunity for him to reignite his form.
