Celta Vigo president Marián Mouriño has on Monday provided a fresh insight into the future of star defender Óscar Mingueza.
This comes amid long-standing speculation, pointing towards a potential return to Barcelona for the Spanish international.
Mingueza is for his part in the midst of what has been a superb campaign to date, giving rise to two goals and five assists across 17 La Liga appearances.
Such impressive production has not gone at all unnoticed across the Spanish football landscape, with the aforementioned Barcelona, who sold Mingueza to Celta back in the summer of 2022, keeping a close eye on his development.
The Blaugrana secured a buyback clause worth €10 million as part of their agreement with the brass at Balaídos, with the 25-year-old now considered a legitimate backup option to Jules Koundé for next season.
During an exchange with the media on Monday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Mingueza’s future was put to Celta Vigo president Marián Mouriño once more.
And the Celestes chief went on to admit that, in the case of an interested club paying the necessary clause, a departure for the stopper will be unavoidable:
“The clauses are always there and anyone can pay them. Mingueza is an important player in the team, in the dressing room, being an international and I see him so happy here that it is difficult for me to think that he can leave, but so many things happen in the market that tomorrow they may call me and tell me that they have paid the clause. I think he will continue with us, though.”
