Brescia owner Massimo Cellino has received a takeover offer from a US fund and has reportedly started thinking about buying Charlton Athletic should the deal go through.
The Rondinelle have only spent one season in the Italian topflight in recent decades, finishing 19th in the 2019-20 Serie A season, dropping straight back down to the second tier. That campaign coincided with the brief return of Mario Balotelli, who grew up in the Lombardy city.
Local outlet Brescia In Gol details how an unnamed US investment fund has proposed a takeover offer worth around €18-20m for Brescia, a little below owner Cellino’s €25m price tag. Negotiations are ongoing and updates are expected in the coming weeks.
The report also suggests that Cellino has no intention of selling Brescia before lining up a deal for a new club, wanting to continue in football. He has set his sights on the London-based Charlton Athletic, interested in a new experience in England after his spell at Leeds United from 2014 to 2017.
The Addicks currently find themselves 15th in the League One table, likely safe from relegation. They famously spent eight years in the Premier League from 1998 to 2007.
