Former Blue William Gallas feels Chelsea have made another mistake in the transfer market with their latest business.

Chelsea agreed deals last week to sign Sporting Lisbon duo Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo, with the Portuguese club confirming the transfers on Wednesday.

Quenda, who is 17 will join in 2026, whilst Essugo will join up with his new team-mates this summer and is expected to be part of the first team squad.

Gallas fears Chelsea have made another mistake

Quenda is one of the most exciting talents in football in his age group and the deal to bring the teenager to Stamford Bridge is worth an initial £42.5m with a further £1.1m in add ons.

The teenager can play on both the left and right wing, but it’s believed Chelsea plan to predominantly use him on the left hand side.

The chance to play as a winger is said to be one of the key reasons Quenda picked the Blues over Manchester United.

Despite his age Quenda has already made 44 appearances for Sporting this season, including ten in the Champions League, and injury permitting he could arrive at Chelsea with over 100 appearances for the Portuguese giants.

Quenda is clearly talented and could be a star of the future, but Gallas is concerned the Blues have made another mistake in the market.

“I still don’t understand why Chelsea are signing only young players,” he said as quoted by Metro.

“It looks like it’s an investment on the young players. They buy that young player for that price and then they sell him for more money.

“But at the moment, I don’t know if Chelsea have the opportunity to do that. They have already bought some young players, but the young players they have bought, I don’t think that their value has gone up.

“So it looks like they are making mistakes. Don’t forget that this generation is completely different, when you put so much money into the young players it’s not the same as 20, 30 or 40 years ago.
