Chelsea make the trip to Ipswich Town this evening for the first time in over two decades.
Enzo Maresca’s side are looking for a first win in three Premier League games, having stumbled of late with dropped points. Fulham staged a late comeback to win at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day, a result that followed a frustrating goalless draw at Everton.
Fourth as things stand, a win for Chelsea will see them climb back into second. However, a 10-point gap has now opened up to leaders Liverpool.
Chelsea face an Ipswich side still searching for their first home win since promotion. The Tractor Boys showed spirit during a narrow defeat at Arsenal on December 27th but have now lost five of their last six. Kieran McKenna’s team are 19th in the table.
Chelsea will again be without the defensive trio of Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Reece James, while Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Romeo Lavia will be assessed after missing the defeat to Fulham. Mykhailo Mudryk remains unavailable due to a suspension following a adverse finding in a drug sample.
Maresca has confirmed he could make changes with the likes of Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku pushing for a place in the side.
“We will see if we make one change or two changes or three changes, now it’s a bit early, but for sure we are going to change something,” Maresca said.
“For sure after a game you need to go again, no matter the result. Especially this month. We have already played eight or nine games in December, in 26 or 27 days. Now it’s also important to recover the energy and go again on Monday.”
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; Gusto, Tosin, Colwill, Cucurella; Caicedo, Fernandez; Neto, Palmer, Felix; Jackson.
Ipswich host Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday 30th December 2024. Kick-off at Portman Road is 19:45 GMT.
Ipswich vs Chelsea will not be available to watch live in the United Kingdom.
