Sheffield United showcased a dominant performance at Bramall Lane, comfortably beating Norwich City 2-0. The Blades’ solid defensive effort ensured Norwich failed to register a single shot on goal, while a brace from Harrison Burrows sealed the victory.

Burrows’ first goal was a moment of drama and precision. A well-executed volley struck one post, then the other, before crossing the line in slow motion to give Sheffield United the lead on 22 minutes.

Gustavo Hamer almost doubled the advantage with an audacious long-range attempt that forced Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn into a spectacular save as he was scrambling back. Callum O’Hare followed up with an effort from the edge of the box as he raced away one versus one against the goalkeeper, but Gunn was equal to the task, keeping the visitors in the contest as the first half drew to a close.

In the second half, the Blades clinched the win after being awarded a penalty as ex Norwich City man Sam McCallum drew the foul. His fellow versatile left-back, Burrows stepped up with confidence and slotted the spot-kick beyond Gunn, cementing a well-earned victory for the home side.

Manager Chris Wilder praised his team’s defensive organisation and pressing game, highlighting how they nullified Norwich’s build-up play, he told SUTV. “We knew the two centre-halves were key for them in terms of how they start and build. We got the press right; don’t think they really broke through us many times. I thought our back four was really good, nothing to complain about. I’m delighted.”

Wilder was thrilled with the overall effort, pointing out the balance between attacking flair and defensive resilience. “Really enjoyed it. I thought the team was excellent from start to finish against dangerous opposition. I thought the attitude of the players yet again was superb and we played as well. We talked about last week when we were at Watford about sometimes it’s just about getting over the winning line, and emotionally, and physically exhausting yourself, and digging in, and making that recovery run, or make that block, or get up to support play. And they did all those things at Watford and that’s something for us to lean on in terms of what the group is all about at our absolute weakest, and we produced that.”

He expanded: “I thought we controlled the game; created some really good chances, a couple of great goals, and were never really in danger. We got the out of possession stuff really well; coped with that against dangerous opposition. And in-possession we were bright and sharp. Fabulous day for us. I said to the players we have to embrace the reward, which was getting back to the top of the division and we’ve done that.”

Unfortunately, Sheffield United were forced to substitute Tom Davies off in the latter stages of the game. Wilder revealed he was substituted after feeling discomfort, “He had a tug on his groin, so he’s pretty sore. We’ll have to wait and see regarding him.”

Sheffield United are eyeing further reinforcements, with Wilder revealing progress on several targets, per Yorkshire Post. He said “We’re after five new players and I expect to sign them all. We’re close on three”. One of those we know of is Ben Brereton Diaz as the Chilean was spotted in the crowd at Bramall Lane, with a deal reportedly due to be announced early next week.
