Ante Rebic was one of the stand-out performers for AC Milan during their preseason friendly win over Lemine Almenno yesterday, and it is a big season for the winger.
Although it was just a 60-minute match against an amateur side, Rebic donned the captain’s arm band and put in a very positive display at Milanello, scoring a goal with a fierce low shot from distance and generally showing an excellent work rate.
After two years in double figures in the terms of league goals in 2019-20 and 2020-21, the last campaign was more difficult for Rebic who scored just twice. The Croatian suffered from various injuries and Rafael Leao’s explosion meant he lost his starting spot too.
Calciomercato.com report how there were rumours of a potential sale in the summer, with Wolfsburg stepping forward in May to ask for information, but that vanished quickly because Milan made it clear they would only consider only sizeable offers.
With a contract running until 2025, the target for Stefano Pioli is to get the best out of the former Frankfurt man while the player himself is aiming to regain a position of getting regular playing time. The early signs, with the arm band on, were good.
