The ever-reliable David Ornstein has today revealed that Chelsea have ‘made enquiries’ over Alejandro Garnacho.

While still at very early stages, the transfer expert further confirms that ‘conversations’ have been held as Chelsea look to bolster Enzo Maresca’s frontline with even more signings.

The Blues’ interest comes just 24 hours after Napoli had a £40 million bid rejected for Garnacho, with Manchester United then outlining a £60m valuation of their academy graduate, who signed from Atletico Madrid’s youth setup for a fee of £420,000 in 2020, in response.

Reports have suggested that the 20-year-old is ‘keen’ on a switch to the Serie A leaders while they actively scour the market for a suitable successor to the departing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Whether Garnacho would also be open to a Chelsea transfer remains to be seen.

Since his breakthrough to the first-team in 2022/2023, the Argentine livewire has only continued to flourish with each passing season. He became a nailed-on starter in 2023/2024 but has fallen slightly out of favour since Ruben Amorim took the reins.

After being dropped from the matchday squad for last month’s Manchester derby, Garnacho had to settle for off-the-bench cameos for six straight matches. However, he was restored to the starting XI in last Sunday’s clash with Arsenal and retained his place in last night’s win over Southampton.

Prior to the contest, Amorim told reporters how he believes the youngster could improve his overall game, saying: He has talent. He needs to learn to play a little bit in a different position. He needs to play better inside.

“He improved a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball, but, doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions, like he was in the past, because I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to make the final third.”

United are under no pressure to offload Garnacho, whose contract runs until 2028.
