The process of hiring a new sporting director continues to dominate the Milan-related headlines, and there is now a new name in pole position.

Corriere dello Sport reports that following the collapse of the negotiations with Fabio Paratici, discussions have reopened with those profiles that in recent days had been set aside by the Milan management to focus on the other operation.

Tare is gaining momentum again as an idea. He has the great advantage of being free from contractual constraints, and it could be concluded in a few steps. The Albanian has been out of work since June 2023, when he left Lazio after 15 years under Claudio Lotito.

After two years of observing and updating himself around the world, Tare is ready to get back in the saddle and would be highly motivated for the big opportunity at Milan. He would be very willing to test himself in an even more high-pressure environment.

Ibrahimovic’s pick

Tare was also Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s first choice in the first phase of the casting process. The Swede had met him together with Gerry Cardinale in London and had supported his candidacy, before Furlani swooped in the ensure he would be the decider.

As mentioned, Paratici was chosen but the talks collapsed, while Tare seems to be the easiest to get, unlike Tony D’Amico. The Atalanta director, who is strongly admired, is in fact still under contract. As much as he is flattered by the interest of the Rossoneri, he will have to work until at least June.

Afterwards he would have to convince the Percassi family to let him leave, and this time constraint could affect Milan’s choice. Tare meanwhile had already been contacted by Paolo Maldini in 2019 for the role of sporting director but was tied to a contract with Lazio and the operation did not develop.

After a few years, the 51-year-old could land at San Siro, and with him Milan will have to rebuild after a season far below expectations, starting with the choice of coach.

New corporate structure

In the next few days, Milan should make decisive steps forward in choosing a sporting director. Tare and D’Amico are battling for a place in the Rossoneri organisational chart that will be revised for next season.

Introducing the figure of a classic sporting director, replacing this year’s work team, will be fundamental for the team’s rebuilding. Paolo Scaroni will remain the president of Milan, the CEO with signing power will continue to be Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada will return to scouting.

Redbird’s senior advisor, Ibrahimovic, who still does not appear in the club’s organisational chart, will always be the advisor and right-hand man of the American owner Gerry Cardinale. The Swede will still be of help to Milanello in managing the team and will deal with Tare on a daily basis.
