Croatian media claims Taylor wants away

According to Croatian media outlet Sportske, Taylor has indicated that he wants to join Dinamo Zagreb and work with Fabio Cannavaro. It is said that he is ‘pressuring’ Celtic to let him join, presumably this month as opposed to in the summer as he is free to sign a pre-contract this month.

The translation reads:

“Speaking of possible arrivals to the blue home, on Friday we learned in Maksimir that Celtic’s left-back Greg Taylor, a 27-year-old with 14 caps for the Scottish national team, wants to move to the Maksimir team, that he is pressuring his club to let him go to Zagreb and under the coaching baton of Fabio Cannavaro, so that ultimately this transfer could come to fruition. “However, nothing can be said with certainty yet, so we have to wait for the outcome of the story surrounding the experienced defender, who is currently worth 7 million euros according to Transfermarkt.”

Taylor will see this as one of his last big contracts and will see himself in a favourable position to discuss terms with teams, given that he will not cost a fee.

Rodgers wants Taylor to stay

Brendan Rodgers has previously said that he wants Greg Taylor to sign a new contract but given the club’s talks with Kieran Tierney, the player will likely be tempted to try his hand elsewhere – such as England or Italy. It would be a surprising move if Taylor did opt to go to Croatia.

Taylor and Boli Bolingoli were signed in the summer of 2019 tasked with replacing Kieran Tierney, who left for Arsenal in a £25m deal that year. Taylor initially struggled to get into the team but has grown into a fine first team player, making 197 appearances for Celtic, scoring 9 times and assisting on 30 occasions.

Celtic in talks to re-sign Kieran Tierney

Celtic have been in talks with Tierney over a sensational return and it would make sense for Taylor to move on if Celtic were looking to bring KT back to the club.

Given what Taylor has achieved at the club, he should be entitled to move on if he so wishes and with the best wishes of everyone involved with the club.
