Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta (27) was transported to hospital after sustaining a head injury after a reckless challenge by Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts during an FA Cup tie on Saturday afternoon. The Frenchman was stretchered off before going to hospital, whilst Roberts was sent off for the head-high challenge as Millwall were knocked out of the competition (3-1).

With Mateta forced off on a stretcher and receiving oxygen, there was considerable concern regarding the Frenchman’s health. However, L’Équipe reported that the signs from the hospital were reassuring. Mateta then took to social media stating, “I’m doing well”.

However, the Crystal Palace forward was bleeding heavily from his ear. The wound on his ear will require stitching, according to a report from L’Équipe. Mateta has been in good form this season for the Eagles, netting 15 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions, including eight goals in his last eight Premier League games. Crystal Palace will be hoping for a speedy return for their talismanic forward.
