Crystal Palace secured a 4-1 win over Aston Villa at Selhurst Park on Tuesday night, and Danny Murphy praised Adam Wharton heavily for his performance.
After a poor start to the season, the Eagles are flying under Oliver Glasner, and they are aiming for a top-half finish, which will be a remarkable achievement.
Wharton started for the first time since undergoing surgery in October dazzled in the middle of the park, and Tomas Tuchel, who was on the stands following the game, will be very pleased with what he saw.
Morgan Rogers also scored a brilliant goal for Villa. The two players definitely have the potential to become very accomplished international stars.
Ismaila Sarr scored twice, while Jean-Philippe Mateta and Eddie Nketiah added another, but Wharton caught the attention with his overall dynamic display.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy said that he is a big fan of Wharton, who does things effortlessly.
He said: “It’s great to see him back. I am his huge fan. The game seems effortless to him.
“He sees the picture, he can take the ball under pressure situations in dangerous areas, always looking to be progressive with his passing.”
Palace teammate Marc Guehi also recently praised Wharton’s passing, adding the midfielder is “unbelievable” on the ball.
The Eagles fans will be delighted to see Wharton in the starting line-up again, and he can make a big impact for Palace in the final few months.
He looked a bit rusty at the start, but once he adjusted to the pace, the real quality was clearly visible.
Glasner will also be thrilled with Mateta’s current form. In 2025, he has scored eight goals, a total only matched by Mohamed Salah.
Before Glasner came in, he managed only 11 goals in 81 games for Palace. He now has 25 goals in 40 games.
