David Neres was mugged at gunpoint after Napoli’s match against Parma, so a local businessman tried to make up for it by sending him a new watch and apologising on behalf of Neapolitans.
The Brazilian has had an impressive start to his career in Serie A, already providing two assists in as many substitute appearances.
However, he had a shock straight after the win over Parma when armed thieves stole his luxury watch at gunpoint.
Obviously, this was a highly embarrassing incident for the city of Naples and so people have been trying to reassure the new star signing.
Maurizio Marinella, who runs one of the world’s most successful designer tie companies E Marinella, went above and beyond by sending Neres a new luxury watch along with a letter explaining what Naples means to him.
“I am crazy about this city, about Naples and Napoli,” Marinella told Radio Marte.
“That robbery hurt everyone. I felt the need and desire to send him a gift. I took one of the watches from our collection and sent it to him.
“I wrote a letter apologising on behalf of all Neapolitans. I was very sad that this was the reception he received, but Naples is a very different place to that, it is made of passion and emotion.
“Anyone who wears that jersey becomes a son of this city, and you never point a gun at your son. We cannot accept that gesture.
“Naples is turning over a new leaf, there are many tourists here now and these incidents must not happen.”
Meanwhile, the player has already returned to training a day early along with Romelu Lukaku, who are trying to regain full fitness after late transfers.
