Kevin De Bruyne says he doesn’t care about the speculation surrounding his future at Man City.

The midfielder has just six months remaining on his current contract with the club, meaning he could leave Eastlands for nothing in the summer.

During the week manager Pep Guardiola said that the club would have to take the Belgian’s age and injuries into consideration when deciding whether or not to offer him a new contract.

But De Bruyne says he is only focused on staying fit and improving on the pitch following a tough few months for himself and Man City.

“I don’t care,” he told Premier League Productions. “I am just trying to get back to my level. I feel every week I am getting better. I can for for 90 minutes now. It has been an uncomfortable couple of months with the injury.”

De Bruyne provided the assist for Phil Foden’s goal against West Ham United on Saturday, the side’s final goal in a 4-1 win at home. It was their second successive win in the Premier League, the first time they have done so since October.

“It is a little step,” he said. “Moments we played good. I think it was much better against Leicester. We lost some energy but there were some improvements so that is alright.”

De Bruyne added: “We understand a bit more what we have done in the last 10 years and how hard it is. At the moment we are a bit below that. We are working really hard and the team is coming back fitness wise. There were moments we played well, other moments less. It’s a bit of an improvement but we understand it still has to be better.

“You don’t put yourself down too much. We have not been at this level this year. Everybody said, ‘City are winning all the time, it must be easy,’ it is not.”

Asked about the nervousness in the crowd during the game, he responded: “I don’t know why. I can understand that we are not up to the level but they should support us because the effort is there and we are still winning 4-1.

“I don’t understand what is happening. The team gave maximum effort. The level has to be higher but we understand that.”
