Giorgio Furlani received positive answers, from his perspective, during the trip to New York as Gerry Cardinale granted him the power to make the key sporting decisions. As such, according to a report, Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been cast aside.
In recent weeks, a few sporting director candidates have been mentioned in the media, following meetings held by technical director Geoffrey Moncada and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio this evening (via MilanNews), things have now changed.
During his trip to New York, CEO Furlani discussed the upcoming season with Cardinale and was given the go-ahead to make the key sporting decisions, including the next sporting director. Most likely, this is due to the link with Elliott Management.
“The sporting director will be decided above all by Furlani, despite the meetings of Ibra and Moncada with Tare, Berta and Paratici. Now we start from scratch, Furlani will hold the meetings. Furlani represents the Elliott fund and having the power of signature, he has obtained the right to meet the sporting directors candidates.
“He will meet Paratici, Tare and also Berta. I don’t exclude that other candidates may also emerge. One name could be Toni D’Amico of Atalanta. We will soon need to understand the timing of the choice: whether it needs to be done immediately or can wait for the end of the season,” he stated.
It remains to be seen who will be the chosen one but it’s clear that Milan’s internal power struggle, as we discussed in a recent feature, continues. This confusion really needs to be sorted out before next season as well, otherwise they will find themselves in trouble again.
