One of Barcelona’s key objectives for next season is to strengthen the squad with a new left-winger. Both the sporting management and manager Hansi Flick are looking to bring in a high-quality player for that position.
Two options that were discussed last summer are still on the table. One of these is Nico Williams, although his high price tag, competition from other clubs, and the player’s indecision make this a difficult move.
Another potential option is Rafael Leao, the Portuguese forward currently playing for AC Milan, but who is eager to leave the Italian club.
However, according to MARCA, Barcelona have not yet made a firm decision on signing Leao, who seems to be generating a difference of opinion within the club.
The Blaugrana president Joan Laporta has always supported this move. Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, has been a driving force behind this potential transfer, as he has long sought to bring Leao to the Catalan club.
Although Mendes is not the official representative of Leao, the Portuguese agent has worked to facilitate his exit and is pushing for the forward to join Barcelona. Laporta is listening attentively, but this transfer will not be easy.

The primary hurdle is the cost. Leao’s market value is estimated to be around €75 million, and it is no secret that Barcelona continue to struggle with financial Fair Play issues.
There is also a division of opinion within Barcelona regarding a move for Leao. Neither the sporting management nor the coaching staff is fully convinced by the idea.
While they acknowledge that Leao is a talented player, his recent behaviour at Milan has raised concerns. The player has had conflicts with his coach, Paulo Fonseca, since the latter’s arrival this season, which has led to rumours about the growing distance between them.
The situation escalated after Leao reportedly refused to go to the sideline during a hydration break in a match, an act that was seen as a direct snub to his coach.
Barcelona have taken careful note of these developments. It is still too early for the Catalans to make any decisions regarding which winger to sign.
Besides Leao, there are several other options under consideration, and the available funds will be a key factor in determining which move the club can make. However, the continued persistence of Mendes could also play a decisive role in the outcome.
