Newcastle United’s FA Cup journey came to end last weekend after they lost 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the fifth round of the competition.
The fiery clash at St James’ Park was marred by red cards on both sides, with the Magpies’ Anthony Gordon and Brighton star Tariq Lamptey given marching orders by the referee.
Gordon’s red card means he will not play for Newcastle on Monday night against West Ham United.
Lewis Hall and Sven Botman have also been ruled out for the long term, but there is good news regarding in-form striker Alexander Isak who came off before the end of the 90 minutes against the Seagulls.
Manager Eddie Howe has assured fans the Sweden international is fully fit to start at the London Stadium.
Martin Dubravka started between the sticks last time out, but he will likely drop to the bench, allowing Nick Pope to come in goal.
In front of the goalkeeper, the same backline of Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier is expected to start against the Hammers.
However, we are anticipating a change in midfield. Lewis Miley, who has been described as “exceptional” by Howe, had a chance to impress his manager against Brighton.
But the 18-year-old produced a disappointing display in front of the home fans. And so, Bruno Guimaraes should take Miley’s place, joining Joelinton and Sandro Tonali in the engine room.
Isak will spearhead Newcastle’s attack, with the Swede looking to add to his tally of 22 goals this season.
Harvey Barnes is expected to retain his first-team spot, but he will move out to the left with Jacob Murphy playing on the right side of the attack.
