Last weekend saw Ederson limp off during the second half of Manchester City’s 5-2 win over Crystal Palace. It was reported earlier this week that the Brazilian international faces a spell on the sidelines. Pep Guardiola has today informed the media that City’s number-one keeper will miss his team’s pivotal clash with Everton at Goodison Park. But Guardiola did have a positive update on the status of Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji ahead of City’s clash with Everton.
Speaking during his pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s pivotal Premier League fixture against Everton Guardiola told the media that Ederson is out of tomorrow’s match. He also told the media that he is unsure when Ederson will return. When about Ederson’s condition Guardiola told the media: “He’s not ready for tomorrow. I don’t know [when he will be available]. For the game, he is not ready.”
Pep Guardiola did have a positive update on Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji’s availability for tomorrow’s match. He revealed that the pair had trained ahead for the match. When asked about Foden and Akanji’s fitness Guardiola answered: “Phil came back Thursday and [will be in] today’s training session since the action at Old Trafford. Manu, yes, [he’s had] two or three training sessions with us. I see him moving really well.”
The loss of Ederson is a blow for Manchester City. But Stefan Ortega will step in as City’s keeper for tomorrow’s match. It is good news for Pep Guardiola’s side to have Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji available for selection. Whether or not either player starts tomorrow’s match remains to be seen. But with their return Pep Guardiola does have a stronger squad to pick from. That will aid City’s chase to secure Champions League football for next season.
